An image of the violence in northeast Delhi is used by the Islamic State (IS). The terrorist organization turned the image into a poster asking Muslims to unite and join their cause, according to the US-based SITE Intelligence Group which tracks online activities of global terrorist organizations.

The appeal was made by a media unit aligned with the Indian subcontinent, according to SITE.

In the original image, a photographer working for the Reuters news agency clicked with the caption “Muslim man is beaten by pro-CAA supporters in Delhi”.

This is not the first time that the Islamic State has tried to capitalize on local conflicts to entice Muslims to join them. Also earlier, videos and footage allegedly showing atrocities against Muslims in India were used by the global terrorist organization to incite the community.

The Indian government has repeatedly claimed that Indian Muslims have shunned Islamic State ideology.

The violence in Delhi began on Sunday and escalated a day later. Groups protesting for and against the new citizenship law attacked each other with sticks, swords and even pistols. Shots were also fired at the police, resulting in the death of a Delhi police chief. Dozens of police officers were injured.

The protest against CAA started on Saturday, but escalated a day later. Shops and vehicles were set on fire and protesters roamed the streets, turning the neighborhood into a war zone.

An Aam Aadmi (AAP) party leader was later caught in the fire, with the family of an intelligence office (IB) official accusing him of inciting crowds in one of the worst affected areas, Chand Bagh, on the death of the manager.

Leader Tahir Hussain was convicted of murder and suspended from the party. He however denied all the allegations and said he was not inside the building at the time. He said he was in constant contact with senior police officers as well as AAP chief Sanjay Singh for help against the mob he said broke into his house. building and used its terrace.
